It's the practical question everyone asks before booking a seal: how long am I actually off my driveway? Here's the honest answer — with the caveat that it depends on the product and the weather, so we always give you exact times on the day.
The general timeline
- Light foot traffic — usually after around a day, once the surface is properly dry.
- Cars and vehicles — give it several days before you drive or park on it, so the seal fully hardens and doesn't mark or lift under tyres.
- Full cure — the seal keeps hardening for a while after it looks done, so treat the first week gently — no dragging bins, dropping heavy gear or hosing it hard.
Why 'dry' isn't 'cured'
A seal can feel dry to touch within hours but still be curing underneath — the resins are still hardening. Drive on it or scuff it too early and you can leave tyre marks or lift the finish, especially in the turning and parking areas. Patience in the first few days is what protects the job.
The weather matters
Warm, dry, sunny days speed curing up; cool, humid or overcast weather slows it down. That's why we don't give a one-size number — we plan the job around the forecast and tell you exactly when it's right to walk and drive on it.
Can I walk on it the same day?+
Usually not the same day — give it until the surface is properly dry, generally around a day, before light foot traffic. We'll give you the exact time for your job.
What happens if I drive on it too soon?+
You risk tyre marks, scuffing or lifting the seal, especially where you turn and park. It's the number-one way a great seal job gets damaged, so we tape it off and give you clear keep-off times.
How do you handle it if I need the driveway?+
